Generation Alpha Born 2013–2024
How old is Gen Alpha?
Gen Alpha was born from 2013 to 2024, which means its members are currently aged between 1 and 13.
Ages current as of August 8, 2026 · Following Pew's Gen Z endpoint of 2012; the originator of the name, McCrindle, uses 2010–2024.
Generation Alpha has never known a world without touchscreens, streaming, or voice assistants — the oldest were born the year the smartphone turned six. They started school in masks, learned fractions from YouTube, and will be the first generation raised alongside conversational AI. Nearly every Alpha is the child of a Millennial or Gen Z parent, which is why marketers call them 'mini Millennials.'

You probably didn't know
The non-obvious markers — the stuff only Gen Alpha remembers.
They're younger than the iPad
The iPad launched in 2010 — before every US Gen Alpha birth. The 'iPad kid' epithet isn't an insult so much as a birth certificate.
'Skibidi' is their first native slang
Skibidi Toilet, a surreal YouTube series launched in 2023, spawned the first slang wave that belonged to Alpha alone — to the bafflement of everyone older.
Recess happens on Roblox
For Alphas, Roblox isn't a game but a place — where friendships, fashion, and playground economics happen after school.
Masked kindergarten was normal
Alphas born 2014–2016 started school during COVID protocols; for many, their first classmates' faces were half-hidden.
They've never asked a question a speaker couldn't answer
Siri predates all of them (2011), and smart speakers arrived before most could talk — 'just ask' is their default relationship with information.
The events that shaped Gen Alpha
The streaming childhood begins
Alpha's first birth year was also the year Netflix released its first original series — they've never known appointment television.
COVID-19 pandemic
The defining disruption of the Alpha childhood: closed schools, remote kindergarten, and masked classrooms.
ChatGPT launches
Conversational AI arrived November 30, 2022, when the oldest Alphas were nine — homework has never been the same.
Schools push back on phones
A wave of US states moved to restrict phones in classrooms — the first big policy fight over the Alpha attention span.

Frequently asked questions
What years are Gen Alpha?
Generation Alpha runs from about 2013 to 2024 in most US usage (following Pew's Gen Z cutoff of 2012). McCrindle Research, which coined the name, uses 2010–2024.
How old is Gen Alpha in 2026?
In 2026, Gen Alpha ranges from 1 to 13 years old — toddlers through young teenagers.
Why is it called Generation Alpha?
The alphabet ran out at Z, so researcher Mark McCrindle turned to the Greek alphabet — signaling a fresh start for the first generation born entirely in the 21st century, rather than a return to A.
Is 2012 Gen Z or Gen Alpha?
Under the Pew-aligned convention this site uses, 2012 is the last Gen Z year and Alpha starts in 2013. Under McCrindle's definition, 2012 falls inside Alpha (2010–2024). It's the fuzziest boundary in the whole chart.
What generation comes after Gen Alpha?
Generation Beta, beginning with 2025 births. Before Alpha comes Generation Z, born 1997–2012.
Will Gen Alpha be the biggest generation?
Globally, yes — McCrindle projects nearly 2 billion Alphas worldwide, the largest generation in history. In the US they number roughly 50 million.
